and Village Paint & Body Shop
2966 Highway 100
Celebrating 45 years in business, Gilbert’s Welding & Machine Shop / Village Paint & Body Shop, engages in many different avenues of customer service, from fabrication, repairing equipment to restoring antique automobiles. They can build a custom flat bed on your truck, make it a dump bed, build trailers, fireplace inserts, chimney caps, handrails, gates, fences or whatever you might need. Repairs are not limited, while they are performed on most anything that is brought in the door or hauled up the driveway. Their motto is We Fix Almost Everything. A mobile service truck is available to come to the job site to make repairs and a boom truck for setting roof trusses, signs or any high up needs. A recent combined project of the welding shop and body shop was a new press box for the baseball field at Hickman County High School, set in place in February, 2017.
To add more versatility to the services already provided, a new building was added in 2002, to house the Hydraulic Center. There most any type of hydraulic hose can be fabricated, either rubber or steel, as they have a large inventory of fittings and adapters and the equipment to accommodate most any type of hydraulic hose.
A body shop was added in 2004, and has restored numerous old cars and trucks. A visit to the body shop is like walking down memory lane. A 1968 Ford Mustang was just completed and others in the past include a 1933 Ford truck, 1955 Ford truck, 1932 Ford truck, 1948 International truck, 1941 Ford truck, 1928 Ford truck and many more. If you have an Oldie –Goldie, this is the place to bring it to get it restored. There is much more information on the web at gilbertswelding.com.
The owner, John Gilbert, started this business in 1972 in a one car garage in the Twomey community of Centerville, learning the art of welding from the late Mr. Bud Love. As his business grew he moved to a more spacious building, to what is home of the Hickman Farmers Coop now. In 1985 he bought property at 2966 Highway 100 and built a new home for Gilbert’s Welding & Machine Shop. It is located between Centerville and Lyles about 20 miles southeast from Dickson. Stop by for a visit or give them a call, 931-670-5706, if you have a special project you need done.
